Balloon logging scales new heights in Oregon operations
A 175000 cubic foot helium balloon lifts as much as ten tons of lumber per trip to Oregon saw mills. The twin hulled V shaped balloon travels over rugged terrain at up to 25 mph, enabling timber extraction from previously inaccessible areas. Developed by Goodyear Aerospace for Bohemia Lumber, the skyhook promises up to half the cost of conventional logging.
