Making Big Fish Out of Little Ones
MOSES LAKE Washington big fish are grown by feeding on large fish. Sluggish carp up to 40 pounds are cut, cooked and processed at a small plant. Manager Ray Shinkle says carp meal is the best feed for young fish. Last season 200 tons were processed and hatcheries took the output. A seine like saltwater gear is used under a special permit. The operation reduces a ton of fish to about 500 pounds of meal.
