TV and Radio: New variety show replaces Channing special

AP writer Cynthia Lowry reports a proposed midseason ABC replacement named popen dipity failed to join the schedule. The careworn pilot aired as an emergency fill after Channing's segment was postponed due to a technicians strike. The edited Rhode Island tent tape featured Astrud Gilberto Duffy Saint Marie Buffalo Springfield and The Four Seasons with host Flip Wilson. The tent setting hindered camera work and audience energy. The mature audience for Channing contrasts with popen dipity aimed at younger viewers.
