T C Davis a 30 year old Hope Negro brakeman for the L A Railway was critically hurt when a boxcar wheel caught and smashed his foot near the L A Roundhouse. He was uncoupling a car at about 2 am and taken to a local hospital then moved to Shreveport railway hospital. Davis formerly worked for Hicks Funeral Home.

Little Rock Opposes AP&L Rate Increase
Little Rock City Attorney QO. D. Longstreth Jr filed a formal intervention with the Arkansas Public Service Commission opposing AP&L's proposed one million dollar annual rate increase. He had announced last Saturday his intention to intervene, saying the action was improper while AP&L has an appeal pending before the Arkansas Supreme Court regarding a 3.9 million dollar initial rate increase.

Tornadic Winds Kill One in North Arkansas
A powerful storm spawned tornadoes across eight towns in north Arkansas killing Mrs. Clara Lambert of Hutchinson and injuring at least 15 others. Twenty two homes and two churches were demolished as the tornado path moved from Casa in Perry County to Heber Springs, Alicia, and five Independence County communities including Rosie, Floral, Huff, and Magness, with heavy rain and hail reported.

No New Polio Cases in State
LITTLE ROCK No new cases of polio were reported in Arkansas last week. The weekly State Health Department report shows eight cases during the corresponding week in 1954. The total for the year remains 179, with 239 for the similar period last year. Seven deaths have occurred this year, compared with 18 in 1954’s comparable period.
