UAW threatens widespread auto strike against GM and Ford
United Automobile Workers hint at decisive action against General Motors and Ford in Canada and the United States. Detroit officials fly to Washington to press for a 30 percent wage rise while a 264000 worker strike total lingers. Reuther denounces GM counteroffers as pure economic poison and vows further talks next Thursday.

Bipartisan Peace Proposals Debated in 1944 Congress
On August 31 1944 Congressmen Brooks Hays and Walter Judd introduced identical resolutions urging equal joint responsibility of majority and minority parties for participation in international agreements to establish and maintain peace. Referred to Foreign Affairs, they never heard. They re introduced them at the new session start and appealed for an early hearing amid atomic energy debates. November 10 President Truman echoed calls for a unified foreign policy, aligning with lawmakers.
