North Koreans Used a Huge Conveyor to Move Supplies
For HAL, BOYLE U S Seventh Division reports a North Korean electrically operated conveyor system that carried large buckets of food and equipment over mountains to supply troops. An American patrol captured the end near Dungsan, seizing 100 tons of rice and other goods. the opposite end was abandoned. Captain E N Anderson observed the system resembled mountain ski lifts, with buckets spanning treetops and holding at least 100 gallons each. The conveyor ran north through enemy territory then west along the Ungt River to a reservoir northwest of Pungsan, remaining in operation until captured. The discovery prompts military officials to note North Korean troops will be hungry.

Cotton acreage shift drives 1951 farm policy shift
Washington from Gordon Brown reports dramatic reversal as Congress returns to craft incentives for farmers to plant more cotton. Brannan suggested an 18 million base for 1953 to meet military and domestic needs, aiming for about 30 million acres, a sharp rise from 1950s 22.5 million allotment. Industry faces labor, seed, and fertilizer constraints, plus fears of price-depressing surplus if targets are met.
