Armistice Day marked Sunday nationwide with ceremonies across Arkansas. Veterans groups from Pine Bluff to Fort Smith organized parades. Notable events include a Jonesboro gathering with 140 attendees, speeches by Attorney General The Murray, Brig. Gen. H. L. McAlister, and leaders from American Legion, VFW, and Amvets. Schools and offices close. barbecues and memorial services held in multiple cities.

Youngster Loses Fight With Cancer

Four year old Bonby Byers of Phoenix died after an eight month battle with cancer in Good Samaritan hospital. He had inspired a nation with a plea for mail and received overwhelming support, with more than 200000 letters arriving before his death. His parents Mr and Mrs J Byers thanked the country and asked that no more mail be sent.

Bad Check Passer Can't Write in Washington

Police seek a 75 year old man unable to write who passes bad checks across town using an X as his signature. Described as six feet tall in faded walls with a Social Security card for ID, he makes down payments by check for goods far above the down payment amount.
