Dr Frank W Pickell has opened his own offices on the second floor of the Citizens National Bank Cillains after 16 months with Josephine hospital Hope. He is a practicing physician and surgeon, Ark University graduate, son of Fayetteville physician F W Pickell, and will be aided by local nurse E M McCoy as his assistant.

Hope town announces a community singing at Hope City Hall on Sunday November 27 at 1 p m. Wash Hutson says many Southwest Arkansas singers are expected and invites the public to attend with song books.
The Red Ball garage on North Hazel street was slightly damaged by fire about 11 o clock Wednesday night. Firemen extinguished the blaze before it could make much headway. The fire caught from an electric motor. The garage is operated by Jim Lindsey.
Dr. J. H. Weaver, county coroner, announced at 2 30 p m Thursday that the inquest into the death of Zannie Black had been continued until Friday. The negro, about 40, lived alone five miles south of Columbus. skull fractures and a jaw fracture were reported. He was found dead in a field near his burned home early Thursday morning, with officers suspecting foul play. Black was a World War veteran.
Hope residents are invited to a free educational film night at Hope City Hall on Friday November 11 with Mayor John Vesey presiding. The program includes four educational reels and "The Cougar Hunt" plus a short talk on TV by Roy Reid and a station lecture by G W Ware.
State Highway Commission planned to award four road and bridge contracts in Hempstead Jackson and Perry counties under emergency construction with about 300000 dollars. Bids from 38 contractors listed for eight miles of grading and concrete pavement Hope to Emmet highway 67 with J B McCrary of Atlanta as low bidder at 140217 dollars.
The New York cotton market rose Thursday by 30 points, the sharpest gain since early September, lifting December futures to around 6.36 and a gain of $1.50 per base. The session saw highs near 6.62 and a close at 6.36.
The Star corrects an earlier report about a road incident on Hope Fulton road. A Texarkana driver, Jacob Brown of Texarkana Lumber Co., allegedly struck two Fulton youths riding horses, injuring the boys and killing one horse. Large-wording results show Hoover totals and Roosevelt plurality rising across precincts.
The University of Arkansas College of Agriculture leases 30 acres of additional land for its Experiment Station in Hempstead County near Hope. The station now controls 215 acres of Southwest Arkansas soil across the farm network.
