The Star urges residents to attend a 7 30 pm meeting at Hope city hall called by Lyle Brown for the Stock Show association. The goal is to show real support for developing a year round Coliseum and to justify city financial backing while preserving an agricultural fair tradition.
A weekend of crashes left three people injured. Walter P. Evans suffered a head cut requiring fourteen stitches after a vehicle driven by Andrew Cheatham struck his truck at the F. O. Middlebrooks station in Columbus. Cheatham faces reckless driving charges. Rex Easter of Hope hit a parked car on Highway 4 near Highway 67, injuring Lee Lane and Rider, with illegal parking charges filed against Rider. A minor collision occurred Sunday at Second and Hazel streets between Miss Beryle Pickard and William Foster, and a light damage door mishap on Division Street involved Mrs. Clyde Walker.
Mrs. L. M. Bales, formerly of Hope, died Saturday at her Smackover home. She leaves a daughter Mrs. Eunice Bowerman of Tuscaloosa Alabama and three sons Ross Bales of Hope Loys and Bill of Smackover. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Smackover Methodist Church where she was a member.
Secretary of State Dulles met with armament expert Harold Stassen and planned disarmament steps aimed at making surprise attacks by the United States or the Soviet Union impossible. He discussed aerial inspection and agreed with Molotov on the need for independent Eastern European states. Tito backed Western calls for independence and peace efforts in the region during a seven hour Adriatic meeting.
A M Hulsey, 63, died at his home in Washington. He is survived by his wife two sons Dalton and Thurston Hulsey of Washington and a daughter Mrs Maudine Urrey of Alexandria Louisiana. Funeral arrangements incomplete but will be held Tuesday afternoon at New Hope Baptist Church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens.
Arkansas records six violent deaths in the week ending Sunday. Bettey Marie Catlett, 8, died after being struck by a truck on Highway 67 near Rixie, northeast of North Little Rock. Randall Davis, 9, died from gunshot injuries while hunting in Calhoun County. the shooting was ruled an accidental discharge. Ernest O. Cox, AR Power & Light executive, died when his car overturned near Malvern. Joe Lee Smith, 25, was shot at home. his wife is detained by police.
Arkansas Supreme Court issues include reversals and affirmations in several cases. Griffith v Griffith from Pulaski Chancery reversed in part and affirmed in part. Lawrence v Lawrence from Desha Chancery reversed and remanded. Orr et al v Love et al from Benton Probate reversed. Nail v State denied writ of certiorari to Benton Circuit Court. Hopson v Buford from Clark Chancery affirmed. Alexander v Laman from Pulaski Circuit affirmed.

The decision clears the way for the Arkansas Racing Commission to open sealed bids for a new Hot Springs franchise, with a meeting likely this week. Racing Commission chair Dr. Ed Dunaway said he had not spoken with the governor and anticipated a bid-opening meeting soon. Governor Faubus was duck hunting and unavailable for comment.

The U S Supreme Court struck down racial segregation in public pools and golf courses ruling such practices unconstitutional nationwide. The court also affirmed a ruling ordering Baltimore to desegregate parks and a golf course, and held civilians may be subject to court martial.
President Eisenhower weighs medical advice on leaving Fitzsimons Army Hospital and flying to Washington. Dr Paul Dudley White will report on his condition and outline convalescence before choosing a return date, with Hagerty noting a Friday departure tentatively planned. The White House schedule includes a meeting with Secretary Folsom and later with Secretary Weeks upon his return East.
A $9,000 judgment against state Senator Roy Milum and Arthur B. Poyner was appealed to the Arkansas Supreme Court. The damage suit was filed by Mr. and Mrs. Arlis Clark of Newton County after their son Terry M. Clark died in an accident involving Milum’s livestock and Poyner’s vehicle.

Police report a man described as Billy the Kid smashed through a plate glass door and fled into a house in Auburn California. Deputies noted the suspect reflected in the glass before breaking in and again smashing another door as he escaped.
