Freedom Apple Service Unites Many Faiths in New York

In New York a ecumenical service honored the apple as a symbol of freedom. Women from Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, Episcopal and other Protestant churches joined in a sister celebration at Washington Square Methodist Church. They communed with apple juice, rejected traditional Adam and Eve interpretation, and proclaimed Eve performed the first free act. The event occurred on Reformation Sunday with varied church activities and leadership notes from several congregations.
