GEOFFREY GOULD reports from Washington that Grifff in Georgia police chief Leo Blackwell testified before the House Committee on Un American Activities. He said he arrested five Ku Klux Klan members after a cross burning and found an arsenal in their auto near Atlanta.
The weather station reports hours ending at 7 a.m. Tuesday with a high of 75 degrees and a low of 42. The data reflects early spring conditions and local temperature variation.

American troops of the 1st Air Cavalry report 88 enemy killed and 26 captured in three engagements against 500 to 600 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese near Pleime 210 miles north of Saigon. A separate assault near Qui Nhon left four Viet Cong dead as U.S. troopers suffered light losses. A rescue of Capt Norman Huggins northeast of Hanoi followed a missile site attack, with two U.S. bombers damaging a Vietnamese sampan during the operation.
Federal judge J Smith Henley hears a case with convicts William Hash and Vernon Sloan asking for an injunction against flogging and mistreatment. He also urged prison officials to investigate a report that Winston Talley was whipped after a recent court appearance over strap use.
At Bonneville Salt Flats Craig Breedlove drove a jet powered car to a record 555.127 mph average over a measured mile beating Art Arfons who held 536.71 mph. Breedlove’s first run hit 544.382 mph and the return 566.394 mph.

A diesel fuel truck collided with a car on U S 167 three miles north of El Dorado. The truck overturned and burned for over two hours. Victims are Raymond Johnson 24 of Rayville Louisiana Lois Phelan 20 of El Dorado and A E Greer 32 of Little Rock Greer drove the truck. The car veered across the center line and struck the truck.
Antara reports growing Communist violence across Java with attacks on leaders homes in Tasikmalaya west Java desecrations of mosques and a clash in East Java at Dukuh Karanganjar where one soldier and four rebels died and 16 youths were captured. Martial law sanctioned in greater Jakarta and central Java areas.
About 75 to 100 boosters of the Red Bud Trail Association will meet in Warren to plan red bud plantings along Arkansas 4 from the Oklahoma state line to the Mississippi River, according to association President Loran Johnson.

Governor Faubus urged Arkansas lawmakers to prevent a Hot Springs dog racing track and to block expansion of pari mutuel betting. He proposed statewide approval in a general election and highlighted other actions including Medicare and Ozark development programs. He tied opposition to a lawsuit challenging legislative apportionment and criticized Winthrop Rockefeller.

Lester Kent of Hope will represent Hempstead County on the Resolutions Committee for the Arkansas Farm Bureau Convention in Little Rock November 2-24. Kent, president of the Hempstead County Farm Bureau, is a poultry and livestock producer among more than 40 farm leaders named to the committee.
A special session of the Arkansas Legislature opened to block parimutuel betting with Gov Faubus seeking statewide votes on race track proposals. Reading clerk John Yancey asked a federal court to halt the session, arguing reapportionment flaws under the one man one vote ruling.
Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus outlines twenty two items for a special session. They include appropriations for the session Capitol renovation War Memorial Stadium expansion and the Ozark Development Program plus amendments to racing laws pink slip law and tax changes. An added focus covers education finance prison reforms Medicare and local government duties.
