Jefferson City Missouri May 30 Five and a half years after he left Missouri s reformatory the quick way Robert Bishop 24 returned last night from Hawaii to complete the last eight months of a two year term Since his escape in 1941 Bishop has married become the father of three children served four years in the navy and worked as a civil ian employe in the islands He came back he said because he wanted to clear the whole thing up so he and his wife could raise the kids right Bishop said he worked his way back to the California coast on a freighter and then hitch hiked the rest of the way to save money Bishop was convicted in 1946 of tampering with an automobile Missouri Penal Director Thomas E Whitecotton told him he would refer his case to the state parole board Monday requesting immediate action Chaplain Norman B Holmes in a letter to reformatory officials from Pearl Harbor urged his immediate parole and Bishop has shown a creditable adjustment to civil life
Burglars struck a Hope neighborhood near Highways 4 and 67, robbing six homes of about 50 dollars and taking two bicycles. The largest haul was at J. M. Campbell residence 506 West Third, with 30 dollars and 14 from a purse. sunglasses also taken. Several other homes lost small amounts and valuables. Police remained largely clue less but vows to continue investigation.
Senator George (D Ga) predicts Senate will uphold any presidential veto of the income tax reduction bill. He says he voted for the measure reluctantly and will not vote to override a veto. Bailey pleaded guilty to wife and child abandonment in the last term of circuit court, sentence withheld pending chancery ruling.
Governor Laney rejected the nomination of Dr. N. T. Hollis to be superintendent of the Arkansas State Hospital for Nervous Diseases in Little Rock. He cited lack of administrative ability and alleged misconduct by some employees, saying even meat and milk losses occurred under Hollis. Hollis was serving as acting superintendent since last August after succeeding Dr. A. C. Kolb.
Key West representative Bernie Papy was indicted on three counts for offering cash and whisky to Florida lawmakers to vote against a anti bookie bill. He posted a $2,000 bond, was to be arraigned Tuesday, and may resign his seat. The case stems from attempts to bribe reps Brailey Odham and Clarence Camp to kill a racing and gambling bill.

Fire destroyed several hundred bales of hay in a Gunter Lumber Company building shortly before noon. First estimates ranged from $600 to $700 with officials calling it a total loss due to fire or water damage. The hay storage building, once a commissary, was built by Captain West, founder of the old Hope Lumber Co. Firemen extinguished the blaze and investigators suspected spontaneous combustion in some hay.
A Prescott automobile crash at Elm Street crossing killed Miss Miriam McRae, 12, and her mother, as flames engulfed the car while the mother remains in serious condition. The Senate Judiciary Committee seeks testimony from Federal District Judges Reeves Collet and Caskie Collet and U S District Attorney Sam Wear regarding alleged vote fraud in the August county election. Telegrams invited appearance on June but did not specify reasons. The attorney general noted jurists indicated possible federal charge tests pending further evidence.
