Our Daily Bread and The Hope Route Editorial Mixed
A reader asks for forwarding a paper without a proper address. The piece stresses correct subscription records and address changes, noting routes by Hope and Prescott and a Alaska misdirected airmail. It then pivots to James Thrashers critique of the House Appropriations Committee and anti Communist oath enforcement affecting union members and the ITU.

Hot Civil Rights Plan Seems to Be Bogged Down
Washington May 26 The ambitious civil rights program outlined by the Truman administration last winter appears to be indefinitely bogged down until after the November elections. The report of the president's Civil Rights Committee spurred calls for immediate action, while Republicans pressed for long-pending anti lynching and anti poll tax laws. With high priority legislation stalled, newer civil rights proposals have not yet been submitted. The Justice Department drafted a bill for a new civil rights division but it remains in files. Attorney General Clark announced plans to enlarge the civil rights staff, noting increases in manpower and reliance on support from other sections. The department has sought more budget for civil rights hires, but the request has not reached Congress.

Rail unions push for government rail take over
Washington May 26 union call for the government to begin preparations to buy the railroads drew little backing in official circles. Twenty railroad unions backed the move, though leaders split on full nationalization. Observers noted Congress would have to approve such a step and no mood for it appeared. Railroad executives dismissed the proposal as diversionary amid a dispute with engineers firemen and switchmen over an impartial board’s recommendations. The Railway Labor Executives Association condemned government action as strike breaking for seizing rail control May 10.
