The Associated Press reports thundershowers will spread across Arkansas tonight and Saturday. The National Weather Service says precipitation today will be mainly in the northwest portion of the state with a 40 percent chance in the northwest half and 50 percent tonight and Saturday. Rain is expected with the system.
Severe weather outlook shows a frontal system over the state with rain chances Sunday through Tuesday. Temperatures will peak in the upper 70s to mid 80s, overnight lows mostly 63 to 66 degrees, with scattered rainfall totals from Fayetteville to Fort Smith.
All Around Town highlights Paul G. Healey from Reader High School named among three 1974 Distinguished Alumni at Southern State College Magnolia. It notes his civic work in El Dorado and family ties to Perry Henley of Hope, plus several regional achievements and events including SAC award, HSC degrees, AAU track plans, and Who's Who nomination.
Washington elementary School third year class taught economics by making hamburgers. Mrs Herman Smaith guided the unit focusing on earnings and wise spending. Students learned the cost was about half the price of ready meals and saved money to buy drinks, ending with a hamburger meal.
William Douglas Ammons age 3 of Ashdown died Wednesday born in Hempstead County survived by Ander and Cecil Ammons grandparents and others. Funeral 2 p.m. Saturday at Prescott Park Baptist Church burial Ashdown Cemetery by Cornish Funeral Service of Prescott. Aubrey Irving Clayton 59 of Texarkana died Thursday in a Texarkana hospital retired carpenter survived by Barbara Clayton wife two daughters Cheryl Strickland and Lyn Willis of Ft Worth three sisters Ethel Hester Clye Hester and Sybil Beasley and Ralph Clayton brother. Services pending with East Funeral Home in Texarkana.

District and County slate includes unopposed Chancery judge Royce Weisenberger and circuit judges John W. Goodson in division one and J Hugh Lockadoo in division two. State senate Olen Hendrix, representative Larry Patterson, tax assessor Life Easterling, county treasurer Harry Hawthrone, coroner J T Honeycutt, surveyor James J Kimberlin, county clerk Dee McMurrough.
William D. Feathers announced a single polling site for the May 28 Republican Preferential Primary at the Hempstead County Courthouse drivers license room. Voters will choose governor candidates Ken Coon of Conway and Joseph Harry Weston of Cave City, with Lt governor race featuring Leong Troxell of Rosebud against Andrew Edward Bearden of Little Rock.
The Mena Star endorses Gov. Dale Bumpers for the Democratic senatorial nomination and David H. Pryor for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination citing Bumpers' record and fresh approach. Fulbright faces renewal opposition while Pryor could steer progress. Also notes other papers backing different candidates. A separate item reports a rare eastern panther sighting in the Adirondacks with a photo by Alex McKay.
Albert Graves was elected chairman of the board and Mitchell LaGrone was named president of Citizens National Bank of Hope at a special meeting. Graves has 37 years with the bank and is senior partner of Graves and Graves. LaGrone, joining in 1962, is the third president since the bank’s 1903 charter, succeeding his grandfather and father who previously led the bank.
