New Road Show Promises Moral Instruction and Oil Saga
A period piece contrasts a moral lecture on knowledge as defense with a biographical recounting of John D. Rockefeller’s ascent in the oil industry. It weaves a theater notice about a New theater showing a photoplay with life’s hardships and a business history tying to Rockefeller and partners, detailing early ventures, investors, and profits.
Rockefeller’s early career earns him a self-made turn
The narrative follows a young Rockefeller switching from survey work to business college and bookkeepers. He enters Howitt & Tuttle as a clerk, earns $24 monthly after three months, then becomes a bookkeeper for two years, feeling the firm undervalues him. Rise of Standard Oil Amid Rail Rebates and Drawbacks
Rockefeller and Flagler built Standard Oil through rail rebates and drawbacks that undercut rivals. By 1869 their Cleveland refinery led the city, refining 11,000 barrels daily as they expanded via aggressive finance. Public backlash followed disclosures, with railroads abolishing rebates and Drawbacks and Rockefeller becoming a distrusted figure by 1880.

Blood drive tribute to a veteran doctor in St Louis
Donate Blood To Continued from page one times. Honored by Doctors Goodman, a 42 year old World War II veteran who led the society in its first two years, has never given blood because the doc always turned me down. They said I had enough to do rounding up compatible donors and bringing them to the hospital. The St Louis Medical Society honored Goodman last fall for his meritorious service to public health, an honor given to a layman only two or three times in the society's 100 years. But Goodman says, I get all the reward I wanted letters from persons whose lives have been saved.
