Armed Forces feud fuels future war role debate
A long simmering rift among the Army Navy and Air Force over future war roles surfaced in weekend disclosures. Each service seeks greater size and influence while disputing how a nuclear era conflict will unfold, with arguments about carrier power versus strategic air and the Army’s place in projected fighting. The clash mirrors past shifts as President Eisenhower pushed scientific warfare and force reductions. The fight is just beginning.

The Arkansas Public Service Commission denied rehearing for the AP&L rate increase after the Supreme Court rejected the request. Refunds totaling about 9 million dollars will be issued to customers as soon as possible, with the old July 1, 1954 rate being restored and a 6 percent return on investment considered.
