City dykes Springs pool proposal to serve youths
A Kiwanis meeting heard John Conley outline a City of Hope plan to convert 39 acres at Dyke Springs into a free public swimming pool for boys and girls 16 and under. Plans by Major Stanford estimate a 60 by 200 foot pool with a 60 foot dam, earthworks, and a concrete spillway, total cost about $450 with extra for unforeseen items. Financing ideas include a Kiwanis staged Womanless Style Show to raise part of the funds, plus potential club participation and volunteer work. The project would reuse natural sand and clay formations, with tree clearing and bedrock excavation to create a safe pool bottom. Further Kiwanis activity included Cotton Week observance, upcoming goodwill visits, and club governance remarks.
