Community and Club Notices From May Events

Melody Maids Organized At Garland School

A sixth grade group at Garland school formed a music club called The Melody Maids. Miss Jo Beth Rettig was elected president, with Miss Ann Adams as vice president and Miss Janet McKenzie as secretary-treasurer. Sponsors include Mrs. Oliver Adams and Mrs. B. C. Hyatt. The club will meet weekly in summer with the next gathering set for Friday, May 26 at 4 20 p m after choral practice and refreshments.

Miss Clarice Brown to Receive BA at Ouachita College

Miss Jessie Clarice Brown daughter of Mr and Mrs Jesse A Brown is among 180 candidates for Bachelor of Arts degrees to be conferred at 10 a m on May 22 at Ouachita College. She majors in Speech and English and presides over multiple clubs. She will practice teach in the English department the first semester of the summer session.

Blevins home demonstration club meets for aluminum tray demo

Twenty four members of the Blevins home demonstration clubs and Mrs Lorraine Blackwood met at Mrs Clyde Snelgrove's home in April for a lesson on making aluminum trays. Most started a tray while Mrs Blackwood finished one. Dues were paid. Mrs Coy Zumwah received a surprise gift. Only one pair of pillow cases for the cripple children's home was brought due to a misunderstanding. Refreshments followed and the next meeting is May 23 at Mrs Cyrus Honea's. Liberty VI. A sewing demonstration by Mrs Carl Fuller was given when the Liberty Hill club met at her home. various problems on home sewing were discussed.

Convicted for mistreating Own Daughter in Greene County

Paragould reports another verdict against a farmer, John Haller, 40, found guilty by a Greene County Circuit Court jury of sexual misuse of his daughter. The jury imposed the maximum ten-year sentence. The prior day Cognno Wilson, 44, was convicted of family mistreatment and carnal mistreatment involving his daughter, with punishment left to Judge Charles W. Light.
