Miscellaneous local items record a May schedule of meetings and recitals. Open house and benefit events are noted at Unique Cafe and various venues, with plans for piano pupils recitals, student loans, and a bridge party. Civic groups, a women’s auxiliary meeting, and a junior high banquet report attendees, program details, and hostesses.
A sixth grade group at Garland school formed a music club called The Melody Maids. Miss Jo Beth Rettig was elected president, with Miss Ann Adams as vice president and Miss Janet McKenzie as secretary-treasurer. Sponsors include Mrs. Oliver Adams and Mrs. B. C. Hyatt. The club will meet weekly in summer with the next gathering set for Friday, May 26 at 4 20 p m after choral practice and refreshments.
Miss Jessie Clarice Brown daughter of Mr and Mrs Jesse A Brown is among 180 candidates for Bachelor of Arts degrees to be conferred at 10 a m on May 22 at Ouachita College. She majors in Speech and English and presides over multiple clubs. She will practice teach in the English department the first semester of the summer session.
Mrs O B Sener Mr and Mrs Bryant Saner and son return to Rogers Arkansas after visiting Mrs Matt Galster and Miss Van Gaalster. Mr and Mrs Jesse A Brown will attend Ouachita college graduation exercises May 21 22. Mrs John L Stewart and daughters Brenda and Susan of New Orleans arrive due to father Ched Hall’s illness and major operation at St Vincent’s Infirmary Little Rock. Mrs Hall attends bedside of Mr Hath whose condition is described as wubise fuctory. Mrs Mary J Lampart Center Kentucky and Miss Naomi Lampart Chicago visit Mrs W T Spradling and Mr Spradling. Miss Wanda Massey will vacation in Chicago and Kentucky. My and Mrs Buddy Moon Miss Nancy Martin Robert Lacy Miss Betty Martin and Clif Curtis drive to Texarkana for Gene Krupa Orchestra show at Armory. Brooks Smyth Waco Week-end guest of Bob Hyatt. Miss Norma Jean Franks Arkadelphia week-end guest of Mr and Mrs Clifford Franks.

Twenty four members of the Blevins home demonstration clubs and Mrs Lorraine Blackwood met at Mrs Clyde Snelgrove's home in April for a lesson on making aluminum trays. Most started a tray while Mrs Blackwood finished one. Dues were paid. Mrs Coy Zumwah received a surprise gift. Only one pair of pillow cases for the cripple children's home was brought due to a misunderstanding. Refreshments followed and the next meeting is May 23 at Mrs Cyrus Honea's. Liberty VI. A sewing demonstration by Mrs Carl Fuller was given when the Liberty Hill club met at her home. various problems on home sewing were discussed.
