Star's Color Show Comes to Life on Paper

Our Daily Sliced Thin recalls color printing's move from screen slides to offset presses. The Star began color runs Dec 29 1965 and Jan 7 1966, claiming the nation’s first Berkey 8x10 color separator and first four color photo. Editor credits Arve Jensen for the Berkey and notes staff soon runs the machine. Also reports death of Mrs Helen Williams McRae 68 of Hope at Shreveport hospital with survivors and funeral plans.

Castro Says Money Will Be Abolished In Cuba

Mason Receives Air Force Cross for Vietnam Mission

Mineral Lpgs. Man Dies in Plane Crash

Louis Dean Hosey, 35, of Mineral Springs, died when his four seat Beechcraft Bonanza crashed about five miles west of Umpire, Arkansas. Engine failure caused a spin. the plane flipped near Russell Davis’s home. Davis was uninjured. Otis Davis heard the engine cutting out before impact. Hosey was a former composing room employee of the Texarkana Gazette.

Wildcat Oil Test Drilling Near Hope Southeast

A wildcat oil test by Skelly Oil Co. is under way southeast of Hope at J. A. Jones No. 1. Drilling reached 1,310 feet with eight and five weights set and plans to reach the Smackover line at 4,200 feet, located in SW NE SE 19-135-23W about five miles southeast of town.

Hope High School graduation sermon and events

A series of community notes including a 4 p.m. graduation sermon at First Baptist Church on Sunday and a commencement at 7 p.m. Thursday May 25. Hope High School student Johnny Anthony named president of the Student Religious Council and among four assistant residence counselors for Holcomb Hall at the University of Arkansas. Marines Strike Through Demilitarized Zone Invasion Hits North

U S Marines and South Vietnamese troops crossed into the southern half of the DMZ in an invasion named Hickory. In the first 24 hours 162 enemy were killed, with twelve Marines dead and 202 wounded. Elsewhere in South Vietnam heavy fighting left at least 228 Communists killed. The push widened the war and brought international reactions. Air and naval bombardment preceded troops deploying by helicopter and landing craft across Ben Hai River.
