Oklahoma pledge phrase ties tribes to land trust
The phrase as long as grass shall grow and rivers run linked Five Civilized Tribes to lands in Oklahoma. In the 1820s they received eastern lands from the federal government in exchange for this enduring guarantee, a cornerstone of their removal-era treaty promises. Black Tuesday marks the Oct 29 1929 stock market crash ending a period of rapid growth and triggering the Great Depression.
