Sebastian Jury Releases Report On Fort Smith Schools

Sebastian County Grand Jury released its final report Mohda listing no indictments in an investigation of Fort Smith schools. The jury, called the Preston Rose, former buildings and grounds superintendent, pleaded guilty to embezzling money and property. The board was urged to recover the misappropriated funds and assets.

Ferries Suspended On Mississippi River Crossings

Heavy rains and high water on the Mississippi forced the last three ferries in southeast Missouri to halt operations at Cadamonod Point Caruthersville and Portageville. In Camden Arkansas salesman Mark G Fiveire, 58, died after a heart attack while on a customer call. he was a native of Stephens Arkansas and a former semi pro baseball player.

The body of Air Force Captain Bert Bailey Jr., 39, of Hot Springs Ark was found Monday in Chesapeak Bay about four miles east of the radar site where he was stationed. He had been reported missing after his empty motorboat was found Saturday on the bay.

Conviction Upheld in Mills Case

The Colorado Supreme Court upheld Ernest J. Mills’s conviction for second degree murder in the death of his wife Mary. Her throat was cut and her body was stuffed in an ice chest in their Denver apartment. Mills is serving 38 years in the state penitentiary. The killing occurred May 14, 1957. Mills was arrested days later at his mother’s home near Kennett Missouri.
