Trellised Tragedy at Dimmock Hollow Trestle
The old Dimmock Hollow trestle on an eastern railway saw 18 freight cars set to back up on its span. With five minutes left, the engineer attempted a risky move to “kick them in” and one by one the cars rolled into the river. The conductor wired the division and resigned in a rash act to protest the unsafe operation.
