In Hempstead and Bradley counties conflicting spellings of Beard’s Lake surface after Arkansas Highway Commission maps show different names. The discrepancy arose between the 1964 official Arkansas highway map listing Baird’s Lake and the Hempstead county road map listing Beard’s Lake. A cartographer’s error is blamed for the mix-up.

More Districts to Desegregate in Arkansas
The Palestine School District will desegregate all 12 grades this fall under a freedom of choice plan. Palestine has 314 white and 283 Negro pupils. The Hamburg School Board will desegregate grades 1-3 and 12 this fall with grades 4-6 and 11 in 1966 and grades 7-18 in 1967. Hamburg has 984 white and 598 Negro pupils. Hot Springs extends desegregation started in 1963 to grades 5-6 this fall with grades 7-9 in 1966 and grades 10-12 in 1967. Hot Springs has 5,257 white and 1,090 Negro pupils.
