May 13 194? near Ga records a war bride Janine Higgins from New Orleans says she received a letter she believes was searched for by a boy. She offers to share the facts from the letter and her experiences.
Mrs. Higgins rushed from an airport to a waiting car after a tense scene with a man who refused to identify himself. She said her husband George Higgins, last seen in Savannah, claimed tuberculosis would kill him within a year and that he did not want her to watch him die. She described his impassioned letter and insisted he is ill yet she will join the plane to reach him. Dallas sports notes note Arkansas Razorbacks tied for fourth in Southwest Conference golf while Texas led in both golf and tennis.
Roanoke investigators expect today’s lab results to bolster charges against 16 year old Lee Goode Scott for Dana Marie Weaver’s death. Sidney Kayne tests blood on clothing and hair scraps, while evidence points to a struggle at the Christ Episcopal parish house.
A truck explosion in the Holland Tunnel near the Jersey side during the morning rush damaged the two mile underwater thoroughfare. Thirty people collapsed from fumes of carbon disulfide as flames and debris closed the tunnel, halting traffic and disrupting long telephone lines from New Jersey to New England and the west. He said the immediate issue is deciding what not to do in planning the venture.

Stuttgart May 13 Fred Anderson a 25 year old convict who escaped yesterday from Tucker State prison farm was captured in the railroad yards by Police Chief Buddy Stringer Anderson said he walked from the Jefferson county farm toward Stuttgart and planned to ride a freight to Paragould Assistant State Prison Superintendent Lee Henslee later returned him to the prison farm Voltaire the French author is reported to have drunk 70 cups of coffee daily.
Washington May 12 A witness named Elizabeth Bentley urged the Senate subcommittee to deport subversive aliens to “cut the life line” of the American Communist party. She testified she once worked for 40 to 500 American government employees who fed her information for Moscow and identified William Remington in the Commerce Department, who was suspended and later cleared by a loyalty board.
Chicago police report a streetcar and two autos collision on the northwest side. Edwin A. Harynek, 27, driver of one automobile, died. Scott Voss, 44, streetcar motorman, was critically injured with multiple fractures. Witnesses said the streetcar hit an open switch and careened into opposing traffic.
