Here and There Editorial on Literary Digest Poll
Editorial argues that the Literary Digest poll last winter did not test candidate preference but policy, and that its results were misinterpreted as a verdict on Roosevelt. It notes editors’ reactions, defends the Digest’s accuracy, and predicts when a presidential straw vote might be held while cautioning against assuming the outcome before an opposition nominee emerges.

City Treasurer Loses Auto License Authority Over Delinquent Owners
In a first regular session, the new city council adopted a resolution moving auto license issuance from the city treasurer to the municipal court for delinquent payers. About 200 cars without tags prompted the change, with penalties and court appearances replacing treasurer visits. Police Chief Ridgdill warned delinquents and urged proper display of license plates. New committees were named for various city functions, and parking on Third Street was to be regulated by ordinance.

Landon Leads in South Dakota GOP Primary
In South Dakota, Governor ALM Landon of Kansas built a growing lead over Senator William Borah for the eight Republican delegates in Tuesday's primary. With two thirds of precincts counted, Landon held about 60,700 to Borah's 14,700, while Roosevelt led the Democratic side with 652,201 votes. Uninstructed delegates pledged to Landon could still back him at the convention if his chances remained strong. Democratic delegates backed Roosevelt nationwide. Tennessee Republicans endorsed Landon for the nomination and pledged their delegates to him.
