Clinic Audit Availability Row Sparks Local Tension
Lee County Cooperative Clinic in Marianna faced a delayed release of its recent audit after an Office of Economic Opportunity warning. Clinic administrator Olly Neal Jr promised to send the audit but cited publication rules. OEO officials later said the notice provision was misapplied, permitting the audit’s release to a reporter. The clinic, a point of racial tension in a largely black area, recently won a 1.2 million dollar grant for 18 months of operation amid white protests. The Memphis CPA cited ethical restrictions on sharing the audit, while state Planning Department had no copy.
