Robber nabbed after bank heist on Golden State Freeway
A man robbed a Security First National Bank branch taking 894 dollars. Bank officers hijacked a car and chased the suspect on the Golden State Freeway. Officer Oscar Carreon urged the speeding car to stop as Morton Dillingham, 36, of Buena Park, Calif., was arrested, facing robbery charges. Police said the bag held 894 dollars in cash. In Galveston Texas the opening of the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association convention was delayed as the hall appeared nearly empty at the start. Miss Galveston Caren Broome, Miss Texas Universe, drew photographers near the entrance in a black bathing suit before the convention proceeded.

Marines Seize Hill 881 After Two Weeks of Fierce Fighting
U S Marines finally captured Hill 881 North after battling through three border peaks over 12 days of heavy combat in Vietnam. The operation cost nearly 1,000 Marines and left about 1,000 North Vietnamese dead or wounded. US officers said Hill 681 North fell with light resistance after a Marine company secured the summit at 2 35 pm. Elsewhere, government forces in Hue area reported success against guerrillas as 89 were killed and 5 captured. Col. Robin Olds downed his second MIG during bombing near Hanoi. The US forces also lost one Skyhawk over Thanh Hoa.
