Hartley Labor Law Battle Divides Congress And White House
Washington reports May 4 as the stalemate over repealing the Taft Hartley act. President Truman sought party loyalty while Democrats and Republicans clashed over a Wood Labor Bill and potential compromise. The House backed the president in the final test but faced a possible wipeout of the repeals as party lines hardened. Analysts foresee congressional action continuing into Capitol Hill debates and farm policy framing.
