Representative Costello says up to half a million men under 26 with occupational deferments will be drafted this year. He notes 1,100,000 under 26 are deferred for farming or essential industry and 750,000 non-fathers are Class 1-A available for induction as of April 1. He asserts fathers over 26 will not be needed unless fronts falter. The 1944 needs total 1,385,000 men with 400,000 for navy quota and rest for army and navy replacements.

U S forces report major strikes across Truk and Hollandia as Adm Nimitz notes overwhelming carrier air power.
