Body of Negro Man Found in Red River near Fulton
The body of Melton W. Simpson, a 66 year old black man known as Dad Simpson, was found near the Fulton river bridge at daylight. Officials say he likely fell or jumped from the bridge, with no foul play suspected. He had been seen on the bridge after leaving a local area and planned to visit a brothel. The watch stopped at 8:15 a.m. and his body was recovered about 9:30 a.m. Deputy Sheriff Alen Shipp, Coroner Angus Terndon Jr., and State Policeman Milton Mosier investigated. Simpson lived about two miles from Hope on the Shover Springs road.
