Air Force Opens Mind On UFOs Amid Public Talks
The Air Force states it keeps an open mind about unidentified flying objects and does not hush reports. A spokesman says the goal is to explain sightings, not to sway opinions, countering claims of deliberate ridicule by the Pentagon. Retired Maj. Donald Keyhoe alleges a top policy of discounting reports, urging a congressional inquiry. The Air Force operates a public relations office handling thousands of UFO letters, issuing 3,717 replies last year, with January and February counts ongoing.

Marines in Viet Nam are testing a light Stoner 63 machine gun that can be fired from any position and bayoneted for hand to hand fighting. It weighs about half as much as comparable guns, uses lighter ammo, and enables the crew to carry about three times as many rounds. Eight belt fed units are under evaluation as part of the Stoner family, with other forms not yet tried. The test began last month and will continue for an indefinite period.
