Mrs. Dorothy Wilson of Helena was elected president of the Arkansas School Food Service Association at its annual convention in Little Rock. Mrs. Margaret Moorman of Arkadelphia was chosen president elect, with Mrs. P. C. Brooks of Fayetteville secretary and Mrs. O. E. Lowery of Wynne treasurer.

Ku Klux Klan leaders Calvin F. Craig and Robert M. Shelton Jr asked President Johnson for a personal meeting after his “hooded bigots” remark. White House said the telegram was received and referred to Attorney General Katzenbach. no comment from Johnson.

A massive quake struck central Chile shattering El Cobre dam and burying a 400 person village under mud and water. At least 26 killed elsewhere, hundreds injured, thousands homeless as aftershocks and rockslides hinder rescue efforts. President Frei toured the damage and praised calm amid widespread fires and road disruptions.
