Six Rule Changes for High School Basketball Play
The W National Basketball Committee adopted six revisions at a two day meeting in Chicago. Key changes include extending the 12 foot free throw lane to high schools in 1957-58, restricting jumping into the lane before the ball hits the backboard, and uniforming the free throw line by adding two inches. Other edits limit jump ball activity, prevent offensive players from guiding a teammate’s shot above the cylinder, and consider five second stalling penalties if abuse persists.
