Winning at Bridge Hopeless Hand Aids Defense
In a recent tournament Meyer Schleifer of Los Angeles and Doug Drury of San Francisco displayed a sharp defense. Schleifer opened with a six of spades to view partner’s lackluster holding, while Drury, East, chose the eight of spades, avoiding a blind high. Meyer's following ace of clubs and king of spades led to South’s doomed position, as the defense forced three spades and two aces down. The bidding sequence shows South facing a difficult AKQ976 spade combination and choosing to pass to avoid trouble.
