The Arkansas Supreme Court refused to stay a circuit court order directing Secretary of State Kelly Bryant to allow Arkansas Gazette reporter Tucker Steinmetz to inspect corporation file cards stored in trays. Steinmetz was later permitted to examine cards individually, as he requested, after Wood’s hearings. The high court noted no irreparable harm shown from noncompliance and upheld the lower record-based approach.
Senate subcommittee probing U S moves to block Chilean president Allende aims to question Secretary of State Rogers and CIA official William V Broe. In closed session the panel instructed staff to negotiate with the CIA for Broe appearance while again seeking Rogers testimony.
Support for a week long meat boycott starting April 1 appears to grow as two Los Angeles housewives urged resistance. Consumers cite high prices and financial need while officials note price reductions and demand side effects. Organizers plan extending the boycott if prices do not fall. June Donavan and Arline Mathews conceived the action in late February.
A federal judge today sentenced one of the seven Watergate conspirators to as much as 20 years in prison. Provisional sentences were set for five others, while sentence for one man was postponed amid claims that political pressure was used to keep the principals silent.
The Bloodmobile returns to Hope on March 26 and 27 at the First United Methodist Church.
