Computerized typesetting comes to The Star plant move
Washburn o e oc omputers: Next month The Star will replace the Just-O-Writers with two Compugraphic photo typesetting machines from Wilmington Massachusetts. The system uses six type faces plus boldface and italics, prints faster and quieter, and stores hyphenation in memory. Each unit runs 125 words a minute, two machines total 250 wpm, enabling rapid column and page production. The switch is slated for late April with the first unit arriving, and the second in June, as bold bylines begin appearing in 9 pt body type. The machines are leased with purchase planned after other terms are met.

Sam Evans age 26 and Erma Jean McDonald age 30, both of Hope, were found dead in a car five miles north of Hope in the DeAnn area. Two inmates escaped Cummins Prison Farm after the truck they drove became stuck in mud on the farm. The weekend highway traffic toll for the past weekend was four. The Associated Press week end traffic death count began at 6 on Friday and ended at midnight Sunday.
