Robbery charge filed here in Hempstead County

Charges were filed today against Floyd Johnson, 22, of Hempstead County, for a Thursday robbery at a small grocery four miles northeast of De Ann. The store owner Mrs Birdie Avery was tied up but unharmed. Johnson was arrested at his home within hours. money recovered. Hempstead and Nevada County deputies and Arkansas State Police led the investigation.

New Star Plant Site Unveils New Sign on W Third St

Hope Star reports the new Star Plant site at W Third and Grady Sts gains a double-face sign. The west side lights fully with the east face partially lit due to a broken letter to be replaced. Doctors End 5 Day Strike In New York Hospitals

Doctors from 22 private and city hospitals returned to work in New York ending a historic five day walkout. The League of Voluntary Hospitals offered a contract that CIR rejected earlier. late Thursday it was resurrected and announced by both sides. A CIR spokesman stated a formal ratification by members was not required.

House OKs new agency to run state buildings

In a 78 to 4 vote, Arkansas lawmakers replace the Public Building Authority with the State Building Services office to oversee design, maintenance, construction and leasing of state buildings. The PBA faced constitutional bonding limits after a $75 million Capitol project.
