Hempstead County Antique Collectors Club aims to raise about 3500 to replace the Frisco Depot building and renovate the site as centennial headquarters then museum. An antique auction will be held at the Arts and Crafts Building in Fair Park on Saturday April 14 at 1 pm.

Arkansas Senate Hopes to Overturn Tax Exemption Veto

SB 490 would have exempted rental fees for tape and film used by radio and TV stations. A similar veto on high voltage electricity used in aluminum processing was also reported.

Arkansas Senate advances plan to split 5th Judicial District
Senator Guy H. Mutt Jones introduced a bill to create a second division in the 5th Judicial District, approving 28 to 1 but facing Gov. Dale Bumpers opposition. The measure would split Faulkner Conway counties from Johnson Pope and Yell counties. The governor balked at geographic division but favored a two-judge plan serving all five counties. The House then approved a Reader Railroad purchase bill 72 to 8 to finance a tourist line with a $250000 revenue bed. The Senate also passed an $18 million University of Arkansas Medical Center construction measure 27 to 0, funded from a state revenue surplus, while defeating driver education mandates 13 to 15.
