Woman May Have Jumped Into River

A Little Rock woman stood on the Broadway Bridge railing above the Arkansas River last night and disappeared after officers were alerted. Witnesses David Leaser and J W Stone reported seeing her at 10 15 p m as traffic passed. A black purse was found near the railing and a cab driver said he dropped the woman off near downtown after taking her from an apartment building. Police awaited further developments before possible river dredging.

Negroes to Trial in Alabama Case

In Birmingham 21 Negroes were not tried today for mass violation of the citys bus segregation law. Led by Rev F L Shuttlesworth the group boarded downtown buses on Dec 26 shortly after Shuttlesworths home and church were damaged by a dynamite bomb Shuttlesworth served as a leading figure in the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights with most demonstrators being directors of the group Shuttlesworth was not arrested.
