Funeral services set for Ward Goodman in Little Rock
Ward Goodman longtime Arkansas Highway Department director died after collapsing at a legislative hearing in the Capitol. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Ruebel Funeral Home Little Rock with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. Survivors include his widow and son Bill, an employee of the Legislative Council. Goodman served 38 years with the highway department and led since 1967. He collapsed during a House Public Health Welfare and Labor hearing. Governor Dale Bumpers called him the life blood of the department and lauded his nonpartisan public service and role in expanding Arkansas highways and the rural interstate system. A native of Hohenwald Tennessee, he was educated at the University of Arkansas in engineering.

More POWs released by Viet Cong at Clark Air Base
The Viet Cong freed 32 American POWs today at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. Air Force Col. Theodore W. Guy of Tucson thanked President Nixon for ordering the bombing of Hanoi and Haiphong, saying it hastened the war’s end. Guy, captured March 22, 1968 over Laos, praised Nixon for bringing the men home with dignity.

US to Send Advance Team to Prepare China Liaison Office
The United States will dispatch a five man advance team to Peking within two to three weeks to ready the first American diplomatic outpost on the Chinese mainland led by David K E Bruce.
