Arkansas mobile telephone service expands coverage along highways
The new system links mobile units in vehicles to central operators, with signals traveling by radio and wire. Receivers and transmitters mounted in cars or trucks will enable calls by pressing a talk button, using 260 watt transmitters for wide area coverage and 30 watt highway level range requiring close interval land receivers along Highway 87. Public utilities and newspapers foresee faster service and lower costs through improved communication between headquarters and drivers.
