United States backs Free China stance at SEATO talks
Secretary of State Dulles told the SEATO Council in Canberra that the United States admires nationalist China and opposes recognizing the Communist regime. He argued recognition would harm allies, weaken peace and security, and said the UN would be weaker with Red China at the table. The communique noted vigilance against Communist efforts to subvert free nations in the treaty area.
