Bronx VA Hospital Struggling Amid Budget Constraints
New York report by Tom Tiede profiles the Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital where spinal cord injury care is the core issue. With 93 patients including 37 paraplegics and 56 quadriplegics, conditions are improved but still considered merely acceptable. Staffing is tight and per patient costs are about half civilian levels, while federal budgets limit additional funding. The facility is undergoing $650,000 in spinal unit renovations and has opened a training center in Long Beach to modernize its approach.
