New Orleans installs the first Gulf Port cotton dryer in the public cotton warehouse. It dries 480 bales daily, replacing the prior method of spreading wet cotton to dry. Built by New Orleans dock board engineers, the box fire structure spans over 100 feet and cost 2500 dollars.
The first snow of the season fell Monday night into Tuesday in Spring Hill. Mrs. N A Garner is spending time with L N Garner and family of Hope. J A McLarty visited from Hope to discuss politics. School closes Friday and the high school plans a play at the auditorium that evening. Alvin Robertson and Mike Foley Jr. and families drove to Washington for a visit with relatives. Opal Garner and Nell Helms of Hope spent the weekend with Clayla Boyce. Mrs Hugh Garner and daughter Cornelia hosted Miss Jewell Martin for dinner. Tom Lee Brint stays with E J Brint to help erect a bridge across Bois dArc. J He Martin visited Howe on Monday. Young Euntce Brown Junior Yocum Ford and Jerry Brint are ill this week. J Porterfield and Elgin Moses did business in Hope Monday.
In Mullens South Carolina the first prize preaching bee drew seven Negro ministers at Everbee Baptist church. The prize was the day’s collection about $12. Four hours the congregation sat and applauded. Congregation ballots chose the winner after the nol sermon.
SAN ANGELO Tex Ten persons were jailed here Monday charged with possession and transportation of liquor and five automobiles were confiscated by officers in weekend seizures. The costs were being prepared for submission to the federal grand jury which will convene here in April.
