EPA offers concessions on auto exhaust standards
The EPA proposes two relaxations to 1975 pollution rules for cars. A letter from Administrator Ruckelshaus to Chrysler suggests easing catalytic converter requirements and allows average emissions across models rather than per car compliance. The move follows a San Clemente meeting and NAS panel quotes urging flexibility to meet the act. The note recalls the 1937 first lounge flight logged from Chicago to New York.
