Washington reports President Truman refused a German offer to surrender all Western Front troops including Holland Denmark and Norway. Railroads recall furloughed workers as coal strike ends

Pittsburg March reports that several thousand rail workers furloughed during the soft coal strike returned to duty. ICC lifted most freight restrictions and restored passenger service on coal-burning lines at reduced levels. Shipkoy Receives Five Year Prison Sentence

London March . Michael Shipkoy former Bulgaria translator for the U S legation in Sofia was sentenced to five years in prison by a Bulgarian court on a guilty plea to spying for the United States. He and four others were tried after an affidavit from the U S state department claimed he was tortured.
