Amendment may veto possible highway veto
Arkansas lawmakers consider an amendment to the Brandon Hampton highway bill that would allocate 3.45 million dollars annually to a four lane Little Rock to Pine Bluff road. Sponsored by Rep. Brandon and Rep. Hampton, the measure sets aside 15 percent of primary highway funds for the project, to be financed by a gasoline tax increase, federal share, and state surplus. Construction would span about six years if approved.

Teachers pay hike approved in Arkansas House action
The Arkansas House approved an education budget raising average teacher salaries by about 568 dollars next year and 525 dollars the following year. The vote on the education plan was 98-0, with totals of 179 million and 198 million dollars in the two years. A companion plan allows public employees to bargain collectively but bans strikes.

POWS to be flown home from Clark Air Base
Eighty of the 106 American prisoners of war released by North Vietnam will fly to the United States on Wednesday. Planes will depart from Clark for Andrews Air Force Base Washington D C Scott AFB Belleville Kelly Field San Antonio and Travis AFB Fairfield California between 2 30 and 3 30 p m local time. 56 POWs and two West Germans remain at Clark awaiting transfer. Thai sergeants and Filipinos freed recently were moved to Bangkok and Manila hospitals respectively.
