Tempers Flare as Arkansas House Passes Audit Shift
In Little Rock on March 6 1969 tempers flared after the Arkansas House passed a Senate bill transferring auditing of city county and school district finances from the executive branch to the Legislative Auditing Division. Rep Sterling Cockrill confronted Rep W H Thompson leading to a heated exchange and a near outside confrontation as debate over the measure and related tax bills intensified. The bill faces likely veto from Gov Rockefeller and other tax measures were debated with mixed votes in both chambers.
