Rotary Club hears Miss Devlin on exchange program

Prescott Rotary heard Miss Ellen Devlin of Pine Bluff speak about her year as a Rotary exchange student in Australia. She attended the University of Australia Women’s College for a year, spoke to clubs in Australia, stayed with Australian families, and shared insights from her experience. Rev. Alfred DeBlack gave the invocation, J. T. McRae introduced Devlin, and a corsage was presented.

Second Trial Date Set in Rand Slaying Case

Bentonville Arkansas AP The second trial of Mrs Virginia Rand of Rogers for the bedroom slaying of Rogers restaurant operator TV Buddy Clark has been set for March 27. Rand previously received eight years for the fatal shooting Aug 1 1954. the Arkansas Supreme Court overturned the conviction. Rand said Clark invaded her home while her husband was away and would not leave. A Feb 13 trial date passed as defense efforts to move to federal court continued.

School Burglary Sentences Upheld

In Arkansas the Supreme Court upheld 12 year prison terms for Homer Wheledon and Edward J. Pepper, two St. Louis men convicted in Greene County for stealing 16 typewriters and a computing machine from Oak Grove School on March 14, 1960. The court dismissed their appeal in a brief opinion, stating no error found in the record. The court also upheld a $100 fine against Freeman Stewart of Norman for illegal possession of beer in a dry county.
