Man Perishes In Flames At Spring Hill Home Tragedy
Howard Lee Carr aged 69 died when his residence in the Battlefield Area near Spring Hill burned early in the evening. He entered the house with a garden hose in an attempt to extinguish the fire but did not emerge. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed and Carr's body located at the front. He had lived in the area three years and was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Wink Texas Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife Stella Carr and two daughters J. B. Waldrop of McLean Texas and Shirley Fay Hil of Spring Hill. Herndon Funeral Home to announce arrangements.

Winners in FFA Public Speaking Leaders at Hope High
Nine of thirteen Area Three FFA chapters met at Hope High School for the annual leadership contest. Dennis Cheatham of Washington won first in public speaking, Tim Ross of Hope was second. Hope’s parliamentary team, with Arrington Moses Potter Willis Cox Parish and Jackson, won first for the second year. Fouke took second and Verger High School third.
